In an attempt to let you all know how the KMV project is progressing (and what we're up to) I've started the designer diary. Obviously I'm keen not to give too much away - otherwise we'll ruin the game when it's ready. But I thought this might be useful for getting an idea as to our inspiration as well as many of the ideas that we ditch along with the process of how we make KMV.
Currently, our attention is being focused on a particularly tricky cave area. I say it's tricky because it's the first organic-like room we've done. Complete with textures, special lighting and scripting (which makes the room interactive). It's actually been very good for us as it has a little bit of everything and really gets us used to all of our tools. Currently, we've spent a few weeks designing it (and it's still not finished). And yet, designing it all again from scratch would probably only take an hour or two. We've also developed a number of tools and templates along the way which should really speed up the making of future areas.
In any case, the cave is now very close to completion - with just the scripting and a few visual optimisations required and should feature in our proof-of-concept video in all its gorgeousness. But more on that another time!
